The cooler weather is starting to arrive, for groomers this means that owners are starting to request that their dogs’ coats be left longer than their last haircut or opting for tidy-up’s instead to start growing out their coat. A tidy-up groom is where your dog has a double shampoo, conditioner, fluff dry by hand with a face feet tail and nail trim. My advice is that a tidy-up groom will usually only last for up to 4 weeks between professional grooms. This depends on the length of coat, breed of dog and whether the dog is getting wet.
If your dog is going to be inside and in front of heaters, have a jacket on or even be under the doona then they don’t have to have a very long coat to stay warm. A number 3 or 4 blade up to a lilac 18mm ¾” inch snap on comb is long enough for them to keep warm. The longer the coat, the longer you have to spend drying your dog in winter after a bath and the quicker it will knot up under a jumper. If you don’t want to do much grooming maintenance at home then book your dog in 1-3 weekly, then you can have any length of hair cut you want. If you are prepared to bath, brush and effectively line comb your dog weekly then a 4-6 weekly appointment is what I would recommend.

Pet Stylists Charmaine & Olivia participated in The Scissor Sisters Australian Tour practical workshop recently. International Stylists Gracienna Foo from Malaysia & Isabella Dobias from Spain shared their tips and tricks with us. We learnt how to put swirls & spirals into a poodle’s coat as well as some Asian Fusion Teddy Bear angles.
We recently supported the Street Paws Festival at Kariong, it was a great day to meet lots of pooches and their owners having a fun day out. We will be at the next Street Paws Festival on Saturday 9th November. We will also be at the “Dogs in the Park” event at Gosford Waterfront on Sunday 3rd November.
We unfortunately couldn’t attend the RSPCA Million Paws walk this year due to family commitments, but we donated towards the cause and provided a prize. We endeavor to support the Somersby RSPCA event next year as well as continuing to provide free grooming when the Somersby Shelter needs it throughout the year.
Qualified Cert III Stylists Emily & Lani celebrate being on the Gosford Grooming team for 4 & 3 years respectively this month. They are very talented stylists that are patient & kind with an eye for detail and we love grooming with them.
